Hello. Here I am again. So, this morning I wanted to stay inside and lay around. I was grumpy and didn't want to go exploring at all. I was feeling frustrated with the heat and getting lost, and getting lost in the heat. ;P But I'm better now. And I am so glad I ended up making myself go to Wurzburg. I figured out that getting a bike on the train is really easy, and that having a bicycle to explore a new area makes the getting lost part so much less annoying!

Wurzburg was cool. The historical buildings were amazing, and the modern stuff all around them, despite the contrast, feels like it naturally belongs. Like they are happy to share the same space. Not like in some places, like Houston, where there is always a struggle to hold onto anything from the past. They're up in arms right now in Houston over the pending demolition of the old River Oaks Theater. And I don't blame them. Houston is notorious for blowing up the old and bringing in the new (new, prefab, temporary, shoddy craftmanship that has a smooth, fancy facade).

Anyway, enough of my ranting. I am suppose to be talking about how great Wurzburg is. I wish I had gotten there earlier, but unfortunately I arrived around 3, which only left a couple of hours to get inside the many buildings the city has to explore. So I had to choose.

And I chose the Residenz.
I'll post more of those photos tomorrow.
But for now, here are more of the city of Wurzburg, in general. And the fun I had with the train ride home.

Goodbye Wurzburg! I'll miss you and your hip college crowd. :)

I bought a small feigling shot for the ride back. It's basically vodka and what I was told is fig flavoring? Quite tasty! Those could become a habit.

Maybe the feigling is to blame, but I took a bunch of photos out of the train window. I'll show them here. Most of them look better if you click and view larger.

These may be my favorite all day. Here, on the train windows they have signs asking you not to do various things. I've photographed, on the left, what the stickers usually look like. They're asking us nimrods not to stick our heads out the window or throw stuff out. They're neatly arranged in a tidy Germany fashion, ya? Well, aparently the stickers in the photo to the right had a sort of mishap. Instead it's like some narative of a guy that drank too much and is going to jump.

...and then when I got back into Schweinfurt, as I rode the bicycle home, I stopped for these.

hello my sweet cousin
i love the pictures of the old buildings. The pictures from your trip home look like paintings. They are so beautiful. My favorite are the old traditional roman catholic churches. the smells remind me of when i was a child.
Love
trouble? bring it on missy, trouble is my middle name. and don't tell me frankfurt has no clubbing... i don't beleive it. where else besides germany will you be before cairo?
Frankfurt probably does have a club scene. i'm sure. but i'm in a very small town. Gochsheim, just out of a little less small town, Schweinfurt. Frankfurt is a 2+ hr drive or 3+ train ride. Plus, about 40 euro round trip. BUT, I just found out I'm going to Leipzig Friday and then up to Berlin. So I will find something!
To answer your question, I'm also going to Switzerland for a week around Aug 5th. Where are you now?
I am in Taiwan until the endish of August and then to Thailand before Egypt. The trouble in Isreal/Lebanon worry you any?
Probably would be more worried if I were more informed. Don't let my family read that! I did see some horrible photos of the poor Lebonese victims and rubble. I feel more sorry for us all than I feel afraid. Plus, Egypt has a great reputation for staying out of all that conflict. Really, the main struggles they have had were the power struggle over control of the Canal and then the displaced citizens because of the building of the Great Dam.
There's nothing I can do about it anyway, the wheels are in motion. I've signed a contract and I am very much looking forward to living there.
:) *wow* I sound like an optimistic, positive person don't I? hehe.
